You can buy a ticket that allows free circulation through the islands and have a boat tour of the Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori: in particular, many daily departure from Stresa. In every island you can decide to spend from an hour to 2/3 hours: in this case probably you will need at least a two day trip to appreciate all the magnificent palaces owned by Borromeo family. For example, you can visit “Palazzo Borromeo” on Isola Madre, with its 8 hectare english garden or “Palazzo Borromeo all’Isola Bella” on Isola Bella. If you choose to spend more time on Isola dei Pescatori, you can buy some souvenirs on the street market, have a walk along the lungolago that allows you to have the tour of the whole island or, in a sunny day, sunbathing and relaxing in the small beaches. Palazzo Borromeo and Palazzo Borromeo all'Isola Bella are closed until March, 23 2018. Nevertheless islands, even if private, are open: you can always have a relaxing walk! The Tour of Borromee Island is, for sure, the best way to appreciate the beauty of Lake Maggiore. In addition, you can decide to visit some of the most beautiful cities on the lake coast: these are Stresa, Angera, Arona and Verbania. Stresa Stresa is one of the most beautiful villages on the lake on the Piedmontese coast. You can have a long walk on the lungolago, also enjoying the view of the luxurious hotels, or visit the city center, with its numerous restaurants, bar – where you can have a fantastic aperitivo – or shops to go shopping. Angera Angera is one of the most known villages on the Lombard Coast, where you can visit the “Rocca di Angera”. This castle offers you a splendid view of the lake from the southern coast; here you can enjoy the beautiful historical halls of the palace, the medieval gardens or the Museum of the Dolls and Toys, founded in 1988 by Princess Bona Borromeo Arese. Arona Exactly in front of Angera, on the Piedmontese coast, you find Arona, the second most populous city on the lake, after Verbania. It hosts the most important economic events on the lake, the Fiera of Lake Maggiore; one of the most beautiful place to visit is the Sacro Monte di San Carlo, created in 1610 in memory of Milan’s Bishop San Carlo Borromeo. Verbania Visit Intra and Pallanza (the two villages of Verbania) and the beautiful Villa Taranto and its marvellous gardens: they were established between 1931 and 1940 by Neil McEacharn, who bought the existing villa. They opened to the public in 1952; they contain nearly 20,000 plant varieties, representing more than 3,000 species, set among 7 km of paths. It also contains a small herbarium and the founder's mausoleum.
